5 Tips You Can Use to Create Blockbuster Copy and Market Your Business Like a Boss!

I learned a lot in November from my mentors and my email lists.

I picked the top five lessons and made a quick video.

Here are a few things you will learn.

  • How the "King of Cold" is blazing a trail into 2021 using the most powerful tool known to business.
  • The best way to use studies in your copy. Without this simple tip, you might as well leave them out.
  • Why I lost my "three-peat" win in the Copy Chief Bullet The Podcast Competition... and the simple advice David Deutsch gave me to make sure it never happens again.
  • How to take an email list fail and turn it into thousands of dollars. (This is the same technique used by A-listers like Ben Settle to flip the tables on critics, and it will work for you too!)
  • An accounting system for your business so simple you will spend less time bookkeeping every month than the time it takes to go through the drive-thru at McDonald's.

Get it all by clicking the video below (or reading the transcript if you are into that kind of thing)

In this week's copy conversations, I'm going to do something a little different.

I will talk about the top five tips that I learned in November of 2020 from some of my mentors and on a couple of the email lists I follow.

The first one I'm going to talk about is from Justin Goff. If you don't know him, he is the king of cold conversions, and you want to be on his email list.

In November, he launched a new course.

And during that time, he discovered or rediscovered how important growing his email list is to his business.

And I know that people always like to say, oh, emails dead.

But here is a multimillionaire copywriter who launches course after course and has one of the most famous mentoring groups online right now for copywriters.

And he is planning on doubling down in 2021 on building his email list.

So if anyone out there was wondering, yes, email is still alive and still the most powerful tool in your business.

The next one we're going to talk about is an email from Kim Krause Schwalm.

You need to get on her list.

She's an A-list copywriter.

She has multiple controls and is fantastic.

She sends out a newsletter every week, packed with tips and tools.

For instance, this copy of her newsletter came out in November, and she breaks down a control.

(Which is something that you rarely get for free)

Now, I'm not going to give away everything Kim talked about in this email.

Here is a little tip for people in a business or writing copy where you can use studies.

Don't just have a dry recitation of the study results. Make them conversational.

That's challenging when you're talking with scientific terms, and you have to break that down to, you know, a fifth-grade level at least.

Make it a dramatization. Instead of just saying the mice could go through the water maze faster, this copywriter said the mice could exit the maze much more quickly than the control group.

But what was surprising was the older mice on the supplement did even better than the younger mice.

See how that kicks it up a notch?

The next thing I want to talk about is an email that was sent out by Daniel Throssell.

Daniel is one of my new copy, crushes.

If you're not on his list, please jump on.

Daniel was contacted by one of his email subscribers, who said they had been following Daniel for a long time.

And using Daniel's methods created a lead magnet.

And Daniel was impressed with the guy and emailed out where to get the lead magnet to everyone.

The next day he finds out that the guy had stolen the lead magnet.

So Daniel spent a few hours creating a new lead magnet and used the story to sell it for ten dollars.

He turned what could have been an embarrassing story into a way to profit.

There's always something to learn when you make a mistake, and a lot of times, there's a way to profit from it.

I've seen Ben Settle do this many times when he turns trolls into profit.

And Daniel did a great job here.

So please sign up for his email list as well.

You're going to learn some great things.

The next thing I want to talk about, in November, I did another round of the Bullet the Podcast competition over at Copy Chief.

Copy chief is an online community for copywriters and business owners.

It's a great place because it's not like going to a free Facebook group or Reddit.  When you sign up for Copy Chief, you're getting people who are paying to be there. They are working hard on marketing their products, or they are becoming copywriters.

There are many A-list copywriters also in Copy Chief, so it's a great place to either learn to be a copywriter or get help with your marketing.

Now, I won the bullet, the podcast competition two times in a row (I talked about how I did it here), this was going to be my big three-peat, and I was excited about it.

But the guest host this month was David Deutsch.

And David tore up my bullets pretty, pretty bad.

And that's the way to learn.

I've done a post previously on why failing is the best way to learn...

... and how to use failure or criticism to achieve.

Anyway, I don't think that there's necessarily anything "wrong" with my bullets, but they were a little "hypey."

And David talked about the strength of bullets that are very conversational without the hype.

And I've seen a lot of people do this.

Parris Lampropoulos is a great example.

In his magalogs, his bullets can be "hypey" where needed, for example, in the big headlines or somewhere where you need to focus attention. But throughout the rest of the magalog, they're very conversational down to earth.

And the person who won this time did a great job of that.

Michael McGovern won, and his bullets were very conversational, very down to earth.

And I can see what David was talking about.

So congratulations, Michael.

If you think that you might want some help with your copy or getting better.

You know, a mentor and a community where people help each other and are active copywriters. You should check out CopyChief.

I'll link down below how to join Copy Chief as well.

There are many business owners on there and look for help with their copy or hire proven copywriters.

And the last thing I want to talk about since we're rolling into December and it's time to start thinking about taxes is the book Profit First.

The Profit First method a great way to set up your business.

Whether you're a freelance copywriter or a business owner, it's easy.

It comes with fabulous free resources, and it cuts down your accounting time.

You know, accounting can take hours and hours and hours.

But when you set up your accounting system, the way that Mike talks about in Profit First, you're talking about minutes, a month, instead of hours and hours every month.

So check that out.
